Bathroom sink

For today’s bathroom trend, there are more styles than the traditional under mount white porcelain sinks. Vessel sinks are gaining popularity in the recent years. You may find vessel sinks being used in bathrooms of regular homes, up-scale hotels or custom-build house. There are a few main stream materials to make,Porcelain, Tempered Glass, Bronze and Natural Stones.

In general, these materials are being used in different designs. For most traditional design vessel sinks, porcelain and bronze are being used. On the other hand, tempered glass and natural stones are being used in contemporary designs. In addition to the design needs, each material has its own characteristics. Their comparison can be found at:

Porcelain is the most popular material among all. It is raw materials are easy to obtain. So, porcelain sinks are the lowest price in general. Most natural stones are not expensive but the production cost is high. Bronze cost in increasing in recent years. Many bronze sinks also require longer time to finish its surface. Therefore, the production cost is also high

Unlike other materials, bronze vessel sinks are usually made from thin plates. As a result, it is relatively light in weight. Most natural stone vessel sinks are made of dense natural stones. They are also very thick. So, they are the heaviest amount all.

Maintenance Cost
Both porcelain and tempered glass are virtually free of maintenance. However, the natural stone and bronze may require coating to prevent damages caused by minerals from tap water. They could be difficult to remove.

Sting Resistance
Depends on the compounds in the bronze sinks, some end users reported aging surface problem after a few years. Traditional porcelain and glass sinks are better options.

Impact Resistance
Both bronze and tempered glass are high impact resistance materials Since most bronze vessel sinks are made of thin plates, high impact may not break them but may leave dents on the surface. Tempered glass can survive up to 24,000 psi impact. Some natural stones, such as marble, are not good hit resistance material. Pay attention to where and who will use the vessel sinks.

Heat Resistance
Both porcelain and tempered glass are very high heat resistance material. They are heated to over 1000 Fahrenheit during production process. So, they have very high heat resistance. Heat resistance of natural stone could vary. In addition, their think body could be a disadvantage when you live in extreme temperature environment.

Color Selections
For tempered glass vessel sinks, there are many ways to color the sinks. As a result, tempered glass sinks offer the most color selections. On the other hand, Paint applied on bronze and natural stones could damage easily, manufacturers usually do not put on paints.

Easy-to-clean Surface
Both porcelain and tempered glass have smooth surfaces and chemically stable. Stings are not easy to build up. They are very easy to clean. On the contrast, bronze and natural stones contains various mineral or metals that may react to water minerals. Their surfaces are usually not as smooth. As a result, they are not easy to clean, compared to porcelain and tempered glass.
